Packers fight back with 4-1 win over Renfrew
Arnprior, ON (Feb. 26, 2010) - Facing elimination, the Junior Packers bounced back on Friday night with a 4-1 win over the Renfrew Timberwolves at the Nick Smith Centre to cut the EOJHL Valley Division best-of-seven series to a one game difference.
Renfrew's Ethan Allard (Erik Mask, Mike Rosebrook) opened scoring halfway through the first period to give the Timberwolves a 1-0 lead after one period of play, despite being outshot 17-7. It was the only goal on Packers netminder Josh Cooper.
In the second period the Packers came alive with Peter Sweeney (Steve Frost, Taylor Collins) getting the puck behind Timberwolves netminder Mike Rosebrook 46 seconds into the middle frame. Matt Lemay (Ryan Eady, Stewart Cameron) scored his first of the playoffs at 8:59. Sweeney (Frost, Adam Cybulski) gave Arnprior a 3-1 lead by the end of the period on a power-play goal.
In the third period, unlike their three other losses after having a two period lead, the Packers slammed the back door, not allowing Renfrew back in the game despite being outshot 14-7. Lemay (Collins, Matt Grandinetti) had the only marker in the final frame for his second of the night.
The Pack outshot the Wolves 38-29. Arnprior was one for five on the power-play, while Renfrew was 0-5 with the man advantage. The Timberwolves have a 3-2 lead in the series with Game 6 taking place in Renfrew on Sunday at 7 p.m.
