Packers give Renfrew 5-4 OT win after four goal lead
Renfrew, ON (Feb. 24, 2010) - It might be a game best forgotten. The Junior Packers, up four goals in the second period, lost to the Timberwolves in Renfrew in overtime 5-4 on Wednesday night, giving the home team a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-seven EOJHL Valley Division semi-final series.
Adam Cybulski (Steve Frost, Danby Suckow) opened scoring at 12:50 of the first period. Cybulski (Frost, Peter Sweeney) scored his second goal less than two minutes later on the power-play. Matt Grandinetti (Drake Clancy, Alec Vice) made it 3-0 after 20 minutes of play. Renfrew replaced Mike Rosebrook in nets with Richard Barr.
In the second, Dave Nelson (Clancy, Brock Zielinski) picked up the Packers fourth goal only 42 seconds into the period. But the Timberwolves didn't give up. Matt Rosebrook (Jordan Welk, Erik Mask) put Renfrew on the board less than two minutes later. The period ended with the Packers up 4-1.
Two minutes into the third period Nathan Siydock (Ryan Lepine, Mask) cut the Packers lead in half. Matt Johnson (Lucas Gonu, Siydock) brought the Wolves to within one at 14:26 of the third period. Less than a minute later Tyler Charbonneau (Matt Rosebrook, Welk) tied the game at four, sending it into overtime.
Rosebrook (Welk, Charbonneau) scored the winner at 7:35 of the overtime period putting the Wolves up 3-1 in the series. Renfrew outshot the Packers in each period for a total of 41-30 on the night. Arnprior scored once on eight power-play chances, while Renfrew was 0-5 with the man advantage.
