The Town of Arnprior shows its historial roots in the buildings on John Street. The town of over 7,000 residents was first settled in the early 1800s with logging and farming operations nestled along the Ottawa River.
Settlers first arrived in the area during the early 1800s and Archibald McNab was given 1,200 acres, on which he built a settlement under a feudal system. The Buchanan Brothers officially named the town in 1831 after the home of McNab in Arnprior, Scotland.
Arnprior was incorpated as a village in 1862 and elevated to town status in 1892. While farming has always been a stable source of income for those living around Arnprior, it was the timber industry which flourished in the late 1880s and early 1900s. The last lumber mill closed in 1993.
Today Arnprior has over 400 businesses with eight large companies providing 1,600 jobs to local residents. The town is perfectly situated along Highway 417 at the juncture of the Ottawa and Madawaska Rivers.
Facilities include the Nick Smith Centre, the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital, several public and Catholic primary schools and Arnprior District High School.
The Arnprior Junior Packers is the town's highest level of competitive sport. The hockey team has been a mainstay of the town and moved to the Nick Smith Centre with the demise of Arnprior's main arena.
The Arnprior Junior Packers are proud to be a part of such a vibrant community and the team works hard to support other organizatons and sports in the town as a partner in the community's ongoing development.
The team would also like to thank the residents of Arnprior for their support over the more than 50 years the team has been in operation. For further information on the Town of Arnprior visit www.arnprior.ca .
