Packers play Royals to 3-3 tie in Stittsville Sunday
Stittsville, ON (Feb. 7, 2010) - The Junior Packers hit the road for the final time during their regular season schedule to face the Royals who have already been eliminated from post-season action. The visitors came away with a 3-3 overtime tie thanks in part to netminder Chris Stack who made 37 saves.
Steve Frost (Peter Sweeney, Taylor Collins) opened the scoring two minutes in but the Royals kept pace getting the puck behind Stack on an effort from Brendan Cruz (Mitch Kerwin, Brad Mason).
In the second frame Cruz (Kerwin, Garrett Incze) collected his second goal only three minutes in. Arnprior kept pace when Drake Clancy (Sweeney, Collins) found the netting behind Andrew Moir half way through the second to tie it up again.
In the third period Collins (Sweeney, Brendan Wharton) put the Packers ahead less than two minutes into the final frame but two minutes later Stittsville's Damian Armstrong (Greg Harding, Spencer Hill) collected on the power-play to take the game to overtime. The Royals outshot the Packers 18-4 in the third period.
There was no scoring in the extra frame. Stack stopped 37 shots for the Packers, including seven attacks with the man advantage, while Moir halted 20 shots. The Packers failed to convert on five chances on the power-play.
